Reworked - Julei-Zu by Darbaras Reworked - Julei-Zu by Darbaras
A long while ago I decided to redo an old art trade I made with :iconbluereptile:, because the old one was an ugly piece of crap.
That picture was a perfect example of what happens when you force a style. Sure, it worked much better on the previous one, but that was the picture I came up with the style for.

This one has a much 'healthier' look. Sure, her armour barely resembles the original, but that wasn't the point.

As for the background, well, the picture gave me a lot of trouble as the character looked the best on a plain white background, which is really weird, considering she's supposed to be in the darkness. At first, she had that overused coloured rectangle behind her, but it just looked way too lazy. So, I decided to waste the whole afternoon with experimenting different backgrounds.

This is what I got. Wait ... how do I perspective? :B

Very nice. The lines are very clean and it's easy to tell what is what. The background looks fine to me. You never get anywhere if you don't experiment, so that afternoon wasn't wasted.

Thank you!

You're right, experimenting is essential, and I do it all the time. This was was just an early stage where the results of practising didn't shine trough.
I had to realise that a complex background isn't just there to fill the space around the character in a fancy way, it's there to give atmosphere, to have an environment for the character to exist in. Learning this, I've became quite fond of painting backgrounds, so much I have a few pictures in progress featuring rural areas and a city park.

You're welcome! ^^ I really enjoyed screwing around with the armour and its details, though I worried a bit about making her too thin, just like the last time, but those enormous pauldrons seem to even it out.  Thank you! C:

Fun fact: I've actually drawn her - or pretty much every everybody - left handed, without noticing it, so I had to mirror her before submitting the picture. It's a bit unfortunate, as the whole thing looked waaaay better with her on the left, even though the pictures are literally identical.

No problem c:

Yeah, it happens to me too sometimes. Cx And also looks way better then when flipped. It's really weird.

Good thing I'm not alone then ... :D

Really? I thought it only bothered me, since it was a quite significant last minute change.
Well, maybe it's because our brain got used to reading from left to right, and this picture leaves a huge empty space the left?

I could flip it, if you don't mind her ... ambidexterity. ^^

I asked some other artist firends and they also have the same problem. It seems it's really a thing.
Maybe! Also, my teacher told me it is good to flip your imagine so you can find disproportion if there are any. Our brain gets use to the drawing we drew in that way and when flipped it's completely different.

Hehe, nah let it stay, this is perfect c: Thanks again!

Now this is extremely impressive on the improvements here. Really like the amount of time you placed on the figure as well as the interesting background for her also. Very well done indeed ^^

I'm glad you think so! There isn't much of a leap in quality or technique compared to my latest works, but I managed to finish the picture relatively quickly. For me, it's just as important, as I can spend weeks or even months on a single picture. :D

It looks awesome! And I really like your style, the way you can put an expression on an Argonian's face, and the expression in the pose as well, very nicely done.

Thank you very much! :3 I wanted something similar with the original one too, but it just didn't turn out well. That's the reason their poses are almost identical, to emphasize the contrast between the two pictures.

Örülök hogy tetszik! ^^
Szerencsére sikerült egy jó kis Wacom táblát szereznem - az utolsó három képemet is azzal színeztem - ezért már csak olyan helyeken használok egeret, ahol nincs szükség a tollnyomásra.

The old one was pretty good I have to say. But this one is much much better looking!
More detailing and has more of that Skyrim style to it, and I still dig that armored Argonian chick there~ :3 <3
Nice work man!

The old one had something awkward in it. The pose just wasn't there, the perspective made it look flat. It really bothered me.
Thanks! C: Be sure to check out Blue's profile. She's her character after all. ^^

I think the whole atmosphere of this picture is very good and gives you a real feeling of beein in old ruins or something. :3
